The Pianist (2002) is a historical drama. This movie is made based on a book titled ‘The Piaanist’. It is a biographical book written by Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish-Jewish pianist and composer. The movie is directed by Roman Polanski. It won three Oscars and received seven Oscars nominations. Some of the casts in this movie are Adrien Brody (Wladyslaw Szpilman), Thomas Kretschmann (Captain Wilm Hosenfeld), and Emilia Fox as Dorota.

The story of The Pianist takes place in Warsaw, Poland, when the World War II has just begun. At the beginning of the movie, Wladyslaw is playing live on air. Unfortunately, the radio station is bombed by Nazi Germany. This is the beginning of his suffering life journey. At that time Poland is invaded by Nazi Germany and Russian armies. Over a month, German troops forbid Jews who live in Warsaw to own a business or work. They are forced to wear armbands with blue Star of David. They are also forced to move to Warsaw Ghetto. Wladyslaw and his family live in this brutal neighborhood. They and other people are starving. Dead bodies are not buried; they are left on the street. The guards are brutal. Wladyslaw even witnesses an entire family are killed by the SS.

In 1942, people who live in the Warsaw Ghetto are deported to a camp. Thanks to Wladyslaw friend, a Jewish Ghetto Police, he can escape the deportation and become a slave laborer. While he is being a slave, he smuggles weapon into the Warsaw Ghetto. He is almost caught but he can escape thanks to his friend, Andrzej Bogucki. After that, he was hiding from one place to another. When he was hiding in an empty house, Captain Hosenfield finds him. The Captain leanrs that Wladyslaw is a pianist and asks him to play on the piano in that house. He played Chopin’s Ballade in G minor which touches the Captain’s heart. He then allows Wladyslaw to hid in that house and bring him foods regularly.

Unfortunately, Wladyslaw cannot return the favor when Hosenfield is caught by Polish troops. Wladyslaw survive the World War II and died at the age of 88.
